Once an Athlete...

Always an Athlete?

Well, yes. Kind of. I played sports throughout high school and college and have been an on and off member of various gyms over the years. I have tended to be one of those all or nothing types where I'm either working out out for 90 minutes 5 days a week or I'm not going at all. Over the past year or so, I've found a sort of balance...tennis once or twice a week, a run here, a fitness class there, so I thought I was doing ok.

Except somewhere along the way, I confused myself with an 18 year old male varsity basketball player with an appetite to match.

Sadly, I didn't get the matching metabolism.

To erase the effects of my episodic mistaken identity, I joined a new-ish place called OrangeTheory Fitness

It's an hour long interval training workout designed to get your heart rate up, help you burn up to 700 calories, and keep metabolism high so that even after the workout is over, your body burns 400-500 extra calories over the next 24-36 hrs.

Now, the first session was brutal! I'm talking brutal as in drenched in sweat within 10 minutes, shaking, grunting, praying to heaven I survive. Frankly, it's nuts. And it works. So far, I have been to 10 sessions, and the changes are already taking effect.

I'll be tracking my progress here, photos and all over the next few weeks. I hope you'll check back and even share your story as well!

Why wouldn't I?

Punchy Glam on the Court

If you are going to play tennis (or do anything for that matter), you may as well look and feel good while you're doing it.

Come to think of it, that goes for just about any activity. Even if you don't feel good, you have an advantage in knowing that you at least look like you feel good.

I love when I'm able to find the perfect cross between form and function. Looks good on and does the job. For me, this outfit nails it, even when I don't play my best. So why wouldn't I wear this, even if everyone else is in t-shirts and shorts? I can't think of a reason.

Real life pics to come soon!

A peachy beach party for my 25th birthday!

A few weeks ago, some of my dearest friends and family members joined me at New Smyrna Beach to celebrate me turning a quarter century. It was a really fun day of boogie boarding, card games, tons of food, lazing about the 2 gigantic tents we set up, and enjoying the wonderful company! It felt amazing to welcome back the Florida summer-time sunshine surrounded by such lovely people. I had a blast and feel ultra lucky to have had help celebrating and making my birthday so special. Here is a photo of most of the gang (I am right in the middle):

As you can tell from the picture, the day was perfect as could be. In fact, we had so much fun that we are planning another similar style party for the 4th of July this year! I can't wait for more beach days in my beloved Florida :)

Can anyone help me find this dress?

It's the J. Crew cotton interlock cross-back jumper item 92674 from Spring 2008. I love the color (coral? persimmon? orange? or whatever they were calling it that season?) but haven't been able to find it anywhere! Not on eBay, not on the J. Crew Aficionada Great (Weekly) Exchange, not on the J. Crew website, not anywhere....

I really appreciate your tips, leads, offers, suggestions!

On my brain today

This is what I do when I've spent my weekly/monthly/quarterly clothing budget....Polyvore becomes my weapon of choice and I live out my outfit fantasies! It's a little bit of stuff I've got mixed with a little bit of stuff I wish I had...
The above and below sets feature the J. Crew Cotton Interlock cross-back jumper, which I'm pretty sure came out in Spring '08. I was lucky enough to snag the sour lemon (yellow) color on J. Crew's Final Sale back in March. The navy I tracked down on eBay :) What I love about the dress is that it's:
  • Perfect for spring and summertime in Florida.
  • Totally versatile. So far I've worn the navy to dinner at one of my fave restaurants. I also wore it this past week for a boat tour of Ft Lauderdale.
  • The x-back is pretty deep (think mid-back).
  • The fabric is a heavyweight cotton interlock (drapes beautifully).

Redundant much? I'm such a creature of habit :) Happy May Day everyone!

Need it, Love it, Want it, I'm GETTING it! (part 3)

This pink is killer!

Love. Love. LOVE.

Need it, Love it, Want it, I'm GETTING it! (part 2)

Sometimes blue feels golden...

This is the blue version of the Silence & Noise Ponte Cutout Back Dress and is probably exactly how I will wear it once I pick it up :)
